TJ LogoGood Evening TJ Family,

There is are a lot of opportunities for you to be involved at TJ in the next couple of months. Be sure to check out weekly updates on Facebook, the TeamLCPS app, and weekly phone updates! Here is what’s happening this week:

October 2nd-6th is Farm to School Week.
Help us celebrate by dressing up as farmers on Wednesday 10-4-17.

Chorus students will meet Tuesday morning at 6:50 AM
Flyers for Grandparent’s Day on Friday, October 20th will be coming home in Patriot Folders.

Extended learning continues this Wednesday after school. If you did not get invited, we will host a second extended learning session starting in late January or early February.

Title 1 will be hosting a Tailgate book giveaway on Friday, Oct. 6th from 5:00-7:00. Every elementary student will receive a free book.

Vocabulary Parade: We wanted to give everyone a heads up that this year we will be starting a new tradition at TJES on October 31st. Instead of the Character Day parade, we will be reading Miss Alaineous by Debra Frazier. Students will use their visualizing strategies to create a visual for a vocabulary word of their choice. They can choose from any content area, any word to create their visual. We will have a parade on Oct. 31st and the best part is every TJ student will participate and be exposed to over 600 vocabulary words! This is going to be an epic event for TeamTJES! Thanks to Our PTA for purchasing a book for every classroom. More info will be coming soon!

The Youth of Virginia Speak Out on Traffic Safety (YOVASO) Club of Louisa County High School is sponsoring the Save Your Tailgate traffic safety campaign 25 Sep - 14 Oct. The campaign encourages teens and adults to buckle-up and slow down on the highways of Louisa County. As with last April's Arrive Alive campaign, we are once again soliciting community support. As part of Team LCPS, Principal Downey and I were hoping you would be willing to post a Save Your Tailgate safety message on your highway marquees for some or all the campaign if the situation allows.

With the fluctuating weather, there are several nasty viruses going around TJ. Please take a moment to review good hygiene with your child including using tissues, washing their hands regularly, and not playing in the bathroom (I threw this one in as a friendly reminder). If your child is sick they should be fever free for 24-hours prior to returning. However, attendance is important and we advocate for your child to be at school, on time, to ensure maximum success. As a parent, I know this can be a tricky call so help us stay healthy and keep good attendance habits. See you in the morning!
