Good Afternoon Patriots,
Welcome to another edition of TJ Family News.  This past week our 1st and 2nd grade Patriots did an excellent job with their back to school baseline assessments.  Our team is already looking at the data and making adjustments to maximize learning opportunities for all of our Patriots.  For our 2nd - 5th grade Patriots, ask them about Science and History with Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Lane or our any of resource classes including our new course ,Exploration of the Natural World with Mrs. Lipscomb.  These hands on learning experiences have been amazing!  Looking at the week ahead, we have a division holiday tomorrow, September 6th for both staff and students.  In addition we have interim reports coming home with students on Friday.
A key factor in our success over the past few years has been our commitment to being as proactive as possible. By working as one team -- made up of students, parents, guardians, and staff members -- we have been prepared and ready to adjust as obstacles and unforeseen challenges have come our way. From the start of the school year, all students have been assigned a LCPS-provided learning device (PK-1 Patriots w/iPads, 2-5 Patriots w/ Chromebook); however, not all of our students have been taking these devices home. Starting on Tuesday, September 7, we will begin the process of asking our Patriots, in Grades 1-5, to begin taking their devices home each day. Students will be expected to bring their devices fully charged to school everyday.
We are taking this step because, as you may know, we have had several cases so far this school year where students have been required to quarantine as a result of being a “close contact” of someone with COVID-19. By having these students take their device home each day, we are ensuring they are as prepared as possible for any unforeseen circumstances.
I also want to note that we will also be providing parents and guardians with an additional window to purchase insurance for their child’s school-issued device if they would like. This opportunity was originally provided to all families at the beginning of the school year, but we want to make that opportunity available to you again for a set amount of  time in case you did not originally choose to do so. We do encourage all parents and guardians to strongly consider purchasing insurance for their child’s school-issued device. We will be providing more details on how to purchase insurance in the next few days.
Finally, I want to be clear that we are taking these steps as part of our efforts to be proactive and as prepared as possible for whatever scenarios are ahead of us. We have no plans at this time to transition to a blended learning, all-remote, or all-virtual learning model. However, preparation is key during unique times like these!
We  appreciate your continued support, patience, and flexibility as we continue to navigate this fluid situation because as we know, only together, #WeAreTJES!  Have a great Sunday evening and we will see you soon!
